Thesis Track

General Information

Each year, several students will be chosen to undertake the thesis track within our programs.

Selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Previous research work;
  • Grade point average;
  • Recommendation letters from professors (including Honours thesis supervisor);
  • Statement of interest;
  • It is highly recommended that students contact professors regarding possible thesis topics when considering this option (see Faculty Contact Info).

Students interested in the thesis track may also be selected by the School to be considered for Killam Scholarships. To be eligible for a Killam, students must have applied for a scholarship from one of the Federal funding agencies:

  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
    www.nserc.ca
  • Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
    www.sshrc.ca
  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
    www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca

Please note that candidates do not apply for a Killam. The School will nominate students to the selection committee on the basis of the information in their admission application. Killam Scholarship applications will be submitted by early February and the students will be informed by March 1 if they have been successful.

Students who are awarded a Killam Scholarship in their first year of the program may apply for renewal for the second year.

Students should also visit CIHR, NSERC, NSHRF, and SSHRC websites for information about other available scholarships.

To be considered for the Thesis Track Program please fill out Part III of the SHCD Additional Information Form which can be found on our Admission Procedures page.
